Alabama Math, Science, Technology Institute (AMSTI)

Hamilton Elementary School is an AMSTI school. Our teachers received four weeks of intensive training in order to teach AMSTI lessons. The math and science kits that we are provided supply everything necessary to teach many lessons. Our children thoroughly enjoy the varied hands-on activities.

 
Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI)
Hamilton Elementary School is an Alabama Reading Initiative School. HES teachers receive two weeks of intensive training throughout the year to learn more about new teaching strategies. A variety of activities are planned to meet the needs of all.

2008 Testing Dates

 
ACCESS  ELL - Feb. 11-Mar 21

ACCESS is a state assessment for English Language Learners which includes listening, reading, and writing. This assessment is administered once during the school year.

 
AAA - Mar.10-Mar. 28

AAA (Alabama Alternates Assessment) is a direct response from the United States department of Education for compliance with the No Child Left Behind law. This assessment measures a students proficiency of state content standards. 

 
ARMT - Apr. 1-3

ARMT (Alabama Reading and Math Test) is a criterion-referenced test (CRT) based on Alabama's academic content standards in reading and mathematics.

 
SAT-10 - Apr. 7-10

SAT-10 (Stanford Achievement Test) is a normed reference test that contains reading, math, and language content components.

 
DIBELS - May 8-16

DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Literacy Skills) are a set of standardize, individually administered measures of early literacy development . They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of pre-reading and early reading skills

 
 
 
 
Requirements and Grading Scales

 
Kindergarten Requirements
 
Letter Grades shall be mandatory in kindergarten classes based on the following scale:
S = Satisfactory (Strong Pass)
N = Needs Improvement (Weak Pass)
U = Unsatisfactory (No Pass)
X = Not Yet Taught
 
Kindergarten promotion requires the following:
1. Parental Agreement
2. 80% mastery on end of year Math assessment
3. Completion of Unit 10 in the Read Well Program
4. Teacher Recommendation
 

 
First and Second Grade Requirements
 
In grades 1 and 2, students must pass Math and Language with a yearly average of 65. Students in grades 1 and 2 must have a yearly average of 75 in Reading.
 

 
Third and Fourth Grade Requirements
In grades 3 and 4, students must pass each of the core subject areas (Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Language) with a yearly average of 65 in each subject.
 

 
Numerical Grades shall be mandatory in grades 1 - 12 in all schools of the school system based on the following scale:
 
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 65 - 69
F = 64 and below
I = Incomplete
